a national model for river organizations.
The Alabama Rivers Alliance has helped numerous small groups
form effective organizations and solve overwhelming threats to individual
watersheds. Check out the membership.
One of the oldest most effective environmental organizations
in the state with a broad base of activities.
For several years Pat Byington has brought us the most important
environmental news in his by-monthly newsletter. Pat stays on top of
environmental issues and has a better understanding of the environmental
history of this state than anyone else I know. You can subscriibe to
his newsletter at the site, I highly recommend this, it's free.

The Friends of the Locust Fork formed becasue of the threat
of a dam proposed by the Birmingham Water Works. At that time the
dam proposal did not go through, but the threat still exists. The Locust
Fork is one of the most beautiful free flowing rivers in Alabama.
Hurricane Creek is the Crown Jewel of Tuscaloosa County.
It faces huge threats including a new by-pass and series of bridges.
This stream is one that is restoring itself and this one can win, thanks
to the efforts of John Wathen and people working with him. If every
watershed in Alabama had a John Wathen working to protect it, we would
have the cleanest streams in the country.
Alabama is a state of hunters and fishermen. These folks
know this land as well as anyone - find out more about their activities.
Keep up with important environmental legislation in the
state.
The biodiversity in Alabama is greater than any other state.
The biologists who inventory the species in this state are some of
